Precedent Studies and Examples

The Objective!!

The objective of our project is to motivate the audience to think freely, to think out of their boxes whether they were students or workers.

We are making a conceptual graphical art to show how those people who think out of there boxes become happy and succeed and not trapped in their boring daily jobs.

The below are all the examples and precedent studies:

The Essay

Thinking-out-of-the box

Creative Multimedia is a media and content that uses a variety of different content forms. It is an adjective which describe as a medium containing multiple content forms. The term 'multimedia’ covers a wide aspect of combination of media opposed to the term ‘media’ which only use traditional forms of printed or hand-produced material. Multimedia includes a combination of text, audio, still images, animation, video, and interactivity content forms. The actual term of “Multimedia”, was first defined by Bob Goldstein (Bobb Goldsteinn) as to promote his opening of “LightWorks at L’Oursin” show (July 1966) at Southampton, Long Island.

Multimedia covers its application in a whole various aspect including advertisements, art, education, entertainment, engineering, medicine, mathematics, business, scientific research and spatial temporal applications. A few examples of them are creative industries, commercial, entertainment, fine arts, education, journalism, engineering, industry and medicine.

Creative multimedia covers a very wide scope in different categories and some of them can be explored through computer, illustration, photography and film. In the definition of creative thinking, computer is a device or a tool for generating ideas. Literally, it is a box which contains full of imaginations that we can come up with. However, there are lots of interaction between us and the computers. Computer is just a box that receives instructions from us. According to the research that we conducted, computer can do lots of stuff like programming, networking. Besides, many kinds of software are needed by a computer for them to work efficiently.

First of all, networking is an ‘It’ thing now in this current era. Farm rendering, paint chat and P2P also are the few aspect of networking. For your information, a rendering farm is a place where a whole unit of hundreds of computer is prepared especially for the processing and rendering heavy 3D film animation, for example, the movie Avatar. Rendering farm is mostly for the development of 3D artworks, but do you know that in online networking, not that we can only chat online, we can even paint in collaboration with other users in the internet while chatting which is called paint chat. Besides online painting, other alternatives also can be used by using available software such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Paint Shop Pro. Other than that, computers can help a lot in building your own career. A lot of people have start making serious business in making website designs and blogs to gain income. Using html as a starting point in designing websites, they make their way up to more advanced level of programming such as Java, C++ and visual BASIC.

Apart of that, a big contribution to creative multimedia is the existence of photography. Photography is one of the various ways of creative thinking by how we present them and the story it reflect from the photos. Photography can be presented in two ways. By display, which are photos that are editable and are uploaded on the internet which later can be kept in an e-gallery such as a website called DeviantArt. Other than that is by prints. Which photos are printed and later can be kept in a gallery. These digital photos can be edited to add more effects or to correct the color of the photos which can be done by several software such as Adobe Photoshop, LightRoom and Photomatix.

Moreover, film also falls in the category of creative multimedia because mainly, the tools like camera, convert the reflected light to digital form and it requires software for editing (post-production) such as Adobe Premiere, After Effect and other animation software. There are many types of film. For example, a silent movie (Charlie Chaplin), documentary ( National Geographic), short movies and lots more. These films also are categorized in different genres such as comedy, horror, action and sci-fi. Films are developing and evolving rapidly through the years and has been one of the most important element in creative multimedia

As what have been explained, we, as a student of the faculty of creative multimedia, do feel aware of the importance of the aspects have been mentioned and we applied them in our daily lives, and how exactly we apply them? This is when you need to think out-of-the-box! Be creative and unlimit your imagination. Thinking out of the box is meant by willingness to take new perspective in life, doing things differently and being open to them, focus on the value of finding new ideas, striving to create value in new ways, listen to other and supporting them with their ideas.

Thinking out-of-the-box is the ability of us to open our minds to new ways of seeing the world and the willingness to explore them. Do not be an inside-of-the-box thinker because they are skillful in killing ideas by having to think anything of being too risky to take. The important thing is to make action on the ideas created. Results are what counts.

Mind Mapping on Creative Multimedia

Lesson 6: Juxtaposition 2

Lesson 6: Juxtaposition 2

In the class, we were given 2 set of words and we have to choose a number from 1~99.
After that, list down the number to both sets of words. From that, we need to visualize the image based on the words that we get.

For me, my number are 52, 08, 17.
The words for mine are:

52 = Fire, Rock
Sentence: The fire being put out by lots of rock.

08 = Fly, Wood
Sentence: The fly look like a wood.

17 = Flower, Tree
Sentence: The flower is falling down from a tree.

Poem:
Love and Chili

Love is just like eating chilies.
It taste nice but spicy.
Someone likie it and someone not.
Once you like it, you never forget it.
Once you found you true love,
You never stop loving her.

Lesson 5: Juxtaposition

Lesson 5

Juxtaposition can be defined as the act of positioning 2 or more different words together that relate them together, especially to show comparison and contrast. There is a movie name ‘Orphan’ which directed by Jaume Collet-Serra in 2009.

There is juxtaposition in this movie. Actually the young girl name Esther is a blood crime murderer. She is a abnormal in a physical and mentality. The already kill a few family and try to seduce the man in the family. Then, if she failed to do that, she will start killing everyone in the house. Before that, she look just like a pretty little princess than well taught with manners and discipline, but in the end, she turns out to be the one which are very terrify and horror.

Lesson 5
Juxtaposition Exercise

MAN- GOLDFISH TIED WITH SHARK FIN
Man is like goldfish tied with shark fin. Although they are not the best from inside but they still trying to be the best from outside.

LOVE- A CUP OF TEA

Love is like a cup of tea. They don’t seem to be bitter and they are not sweet at all. Is depends on how sweet you want it to be by adding sugar.

LOVE- CREDIT CARDS
Love is like credit cards. When you using the credit cards, it is easy for you but after that, you will feel the burden in it by paying all the bills.

HAPPINESS- CLOCKS
Happiness is like clocks. The clocks ticks and the time fly. Happiness will not last long because if there is happiness there sure will be sadness, just like the clocks that start from 12 and end up being at 12 again.

PAIN- ICE-CREAM

Pain is like ice-cream. Time is need for pain to melt down just like ice-cream, melting slowly.

LIFE- BURNING FIRE
Life is like burning fire. When you are young, you are strong enough to do everything but when you get old, you can’t do anything just like the burning fire. Once there is nothing for them to burn down, they will poof gone!

Lesson 4: Associated Mind Map

Lesson 4

This is the video I found in YouTube that is from one of our senior’s work. The video is all about associated mind map. They did in a group. I found it quite interesting although the video is a bit boring but the way they create the mind map is impressive by linking every key word from Cyberpreneurship. Then, at the very end, the whole empty space was filling up with key words and it somehow link back to Cyberpreneurship. This is the video below.

Lesson 4

Mortar and Pastel

This lesson is all about the mortar and pastel. In the lecture, we had been given a task. The given task is all about how we create a new way of using mortar and pastel based on the key words that we had chosen from the mind map that Mr Radzi shown us. For me, I’ve chosen the 5 words which are money, exercise, devil, medical, and married.

1. Money.

Mortar is the place where all the gold chips or bars are place. Then, it was heat at the mean while using the pastel to smash it. After that, the smashed and melted gold can be use to do money and coins.

2. Exercise.

While push up, the mortar is tie up on behind the head and the pastel is tie up on the bicep. The mortar and pastel are tie up for the purpose of putting on weight so that the person using this can improve the strength and stamina.

3. Devil

My idea, devil of mortar and pastel are use to bless a certain people and cursed away the evil spirit. The mortar is the place where people put the things that where Chinese people use for praying and the pastel is the place where people put the cups on.

4. Medical

However, medical purpose for mortar and pastel are use to cure the numb legs by positioning the mortar on the knee cap and the pastel is use to hit onto the mortar to create a impact that help to cure the numb.

5. Married

There are 2 kids that are bond which have a agreement that when they grown up, the will marry each other. When this happen, the guy will have the pastel while the girl will have mortar and when the time comes, they will exchange the mortar and pastel as the symbol of the agreement. Besides, it also use as a purpose of recognisation of this 2 kids.

Lesson 3: Mind Map

Lesson 3

Mind mapping actually helps lots of us gain ideas. How can we create a mind map? Before that, I would like to share the video that teach us how to create mind map by TracyEGardner. She had shown a lot of tips of how to create a good mind map. First of all, fill in the empty space on the paper by inserting different colours of key words or key phrase. Then, expand again from the key phrase/ key words.

Source: youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRFn1U3jvCw)

Lesson 3

This is the mind map that I’ve brought up which is about me. All my information what I like and what i don’t. Most of all, I position my family members at the very middle because they are very important and mean a lot to me.

As you can see, I used different colours for different information of mine. I first drawn by hand and digitize through a computer that I wish to name it the ‘Mind map Tree of Jason’.

Lesson 2: Novelty, Innovation, Creativity and Invention

Lesson 2

In lesson 2, it is all about this novelty, creativity, innovation and invention. Somehow, creative people always generate new ideas. There are many types of creativity. There is creativity with value behind it and there is creativity which without a value behind it. For example, just like the picture of a paper clip and a book page holder. Both of these are really good idea and very efficient but the majority of consumers are on paper clips because it is very useful and cheap where everyone get use to it compare to the book page holder. Somehow, invention of paper clips really changes the culture of society. The book page holder can be consider as a personal satisfaction creativity only
‘REMEMBER!!.. DON'T FEAR OF FAILURE. FACE THE PROBLEM AND ENCOUNTER IT. THATS HOW PEOPLE SUCCESS!!.

Lesson 2

Novelty can be defined as the freshness of an idea. Ideas that make you stand out from the others and be special. These pictures will explain what novelty is.For example, The Basket Building which its founder is Dave Longaberger, the manufacturer of wooden basket. This building is the headquarters of their products that also helps a lot in advertising their products too. However, this is one of the examples of novelty architectural. They imply the concept of novelty which making them stand out and be special.

.

Besides, Burj al Arab in Dubai the world second tallest building which designed by Tom Wright (architect); turn out to be the world’s first “7-star” hotel. He designed the building as a symbol of the sail of a boat and the speed of Dubai’s urbanisation.

In addition, the Walt Disney Concert Hall by Frank Gehry, now appear to be a place for tourism.

The above are all novelty architectural buildings which already explain the meaning of novelty.

Innovation is that improve a old idea and creating a new product base on the improved idea. For example, from a normal colourless cell phone to currently I-Phone 4G. The functions of this model 4G are extremely incredible as in shown in the video.

Creativity can be defined as the new ideas that will be involved in the invention of item objects also known as the ability or skills to invent a new product. However, it reminds me of the movie Inception by Christopher Nolan. His creativity is the one that bring out the story line of Inception. This movie is incredible because of the twisting of the story that shows how creative Nolan is. The image below is the image of Inception that I found in Google search.

Lesson 2
Class exercise: Creating Image of a Public Figure
TIM BURTON

Famous for his dark, quirky themed movies such as Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and blockbusters like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Returns and recently Alice in Wonderland, Burton is an Academy Award- and Golden Globe-nominated American film director, producer, writer and artist.
His most valued friend and often seen in his movies is none other than Johnny Depp. Burton has directed 14 films as of 2010 and produced 9 as of 2009.
Rumors have said that Burton will be directing a 3D animation adaptation from the Addams Family. (Can’t wait! :D)

Lesson 1 Creativity

Lesson 1

What is creativity? From what I know, creativity can be defined as by creating something useful, imaginative and useful enough to contribute towards the society. Creativity includes 2 big processes. First of all is the thinking part and then follow up by the producing part. As if you have lots of creative ideas but you didn’t follow up or act on them still you are imaginative but you are not creative. For example, if Karl Benz came out with blue prints of car but he just stop there without following up still he is now going any closer towards creativity. Because of Karl Benz and his creativity, in this era there only have what so we call a car. Besides, wearing unique clothing and having a special hair cut doesn’t mean you are creative. You are just trying to be special from the others. On the other hand, there is a guy/girl invented something and contributed it towards the society, that is what we call being special at the same time being creative. This is what I learn from the lesson being taught.

This is the picture of my friend Nurul Syahirah.

I created this picture to show how Nurul Syahirah is. She is a very funny and interesting person. She always keeps a positive mind set. The big smile of her is to show that she is a very happy and fun person to make friend with. I wish this picture could represent the cool person of her.

Lesson 1 Creativity

The butter stick is amazing and very efficient. Things evolved based on the revolution of culture and environment. Butter stick is very easy to use and is easier to bring along
compare to the big butter we kept in the fridge. It was invented by Courtesy Kenji Kawakami, 1995. This is a creative invention.
